If your family is getting ready to move to a new house, packing up everything you own will be one of the main tasks you must complete. A lot of things you have are simple to pack, but there are other things that might require a little more work, and this includes your electronics. The goal for packing electronics is to make sure the items stay safe during the move, but another goal is to keep them organized so they are easier to put back together when you begin unpacking at your new home. Here are some tips to help you achieve this.

Take Pictures Of The Items Before Disassembling Them

One of the best things you can do before disassembling and packing away electronics is to take pictures of the items. When you do this, take a picture of the front of the item first so you know which item it is, and then you should take a few pictures of the back of the item so you can see exactly how the cords are all plugged in and connected.

This tip is especially important for TVs and DVD players, because these items can be tricky to reconnect. This is also helpful for personal computers and any other electronic items that may have a lot of cords.

If you do this, you can simply look at the pictures you took when you begin putting the items back together, and this could make the job a lot faster and easier.

Package The Parts In Small Zipper Bags

The second way to stay organized is to have small zipper bags handy as you disassemble any item that has cords, screws, or small parts of any kind. If you place all the parts from one item into one bag, you will have all the parts you need when you put it back together. As you do this, make sure you label the bags so you know which device the parts belong to. Keep the parts from each device in separate bags, but place all the bags of parts into one box to keep them all together.

Use Original Boxes If Possible

Once you have taken the items apart, it will be time to package them up. The best way to do this is to place the items in their original boxes, if you have them. These boxes were built for the items and will offer the most protection for the electronics. Unfortunately, most people do not keep these boxes. If you do not have the boxes, you can pack some of the items in other boxes. Just make sure you choose boxes that are sturdy and big enough. You can place DVD players, computers, and other small devices into boxes, but you do not need to pack TVs in boxes. In fact, it would be almost impossible to find a box large enough for a big TV. For a TV, you could use one of the following methods to protect it while it is being moved:

  • Place cushion wrap around it for protection
  • Wrap a thick blanket around the item
  • Use bubble wrap to protect it

After choosing a material for your TVs, you should make sure you tape the material in place so it does not come loose. You could use stretch wrap or packaging tape for this.

Keeping your electronics safe during a move is important if you want them to stay safe, and following these tips can help you with this. If you would like to learn more about moving, contact a company that offers local moving services today.
